Real Madrid's elimination from the Copa del Rey at the hands of Barcelona was crushing, but losing to lowly Real Zaragoza would have been far more embarrassing and after an 11th minute goal put them behind, they were in a bit of trouble. That trouble didn't last long though as Madrid came storming back with goals by Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mesut Ozil to take down Zaragoza, 3-0, and move eight points clear of second place Barcelona ahead of the Catalans' late match.

What made Zaragoza's early lead even more surprising was that Madrid came out flying. They created chances early and didn't give Zaragoza much of a chance, but a quick free kick played Carlos Aranda in is all Zaragoza needed to jump on top. Aranda crossed for Lafita, who finished from close range, and the visitors were in front after just 11 minutes.
The goal didn't even stun Madrid though as they continued to press. Esteban Granero, Karim Benzema and Kaka all came close to equalizing before Ricardo Carvalho slipped Kaka through in the 32nd minute and the Brazilian finished cooly to get the hosts back on level terms.
It looked like Madrid might even on on top before halftime, but they couldn’t find a second goal before the break, not that it mattered. Right after the interval, Ozil got free down the right and crossed to Ronaldo for the tap in and Madrid had themselves the lead they deserved.
Seven minutes later, a tight angle goal by Ozil ended any drama at the Bernabeu. The German’s goal put Madrid up 3-1 and they were back to their La Liga dominance.
