Through a press release on their official website, AS Roma have announced the loan of striker Marco Borriello to Juventus. Boriello has not had a regular first team place under new Roma manager Luis Enrique, who has preferred new signing Pablo Osvaldo. Seeking some quality depth up top for a reasonable price, Juventus have swooped in, signing Borriello for a loan fee of €500,000. Juventus have the option to purchase Borriello at the end of the season. If they want to make the move permanent, Juventus will have to pay €8 million over three separate installments.

Borriello’s career statistics are more or less inexplicable. He’s been hampered by injuries, but has also gone through odd spells of simply being benched. The last five Serie A campaigns have featured three seasons in which Borriello scored in double digits. In the other two, he scored a total of one goal. He has appeared just seven times for Roma in the league this season and has not scored a goal.
Borriello is unlikely to crack Antonio Conte's first choice starting XI, but he's a fantastic backup for Alessandro Matri and has shown he can play wide in a pinch. He's a low-risk, high-reward signing that should boost the Old Lady's Scudetto chase.
