The FA have charged Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye with violent conduct following an odd incident at the Amex Arena on Saturday during Newcastle's 1-0 4th round FA Cup loss to Brighton and Hove Albion. With Newcastle increasingly frustrated at their inability to score, Cabaye reached combustion point when he was fouled by Seagulls defender Adam El-Abd only for the referee to completely ignore it. As both players lay tangled up on the ground, the former Lille man kicked out - seemingly deliberately - and lashed El-Abd across the face with his studs.

Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye has been charged by the FA with violent conduct after kicking Brighton’s Adam El-Abd in the face during an ill-tempered FA Cup clash.
A bloodied El-Abd had to go off the pitch for treatment but none of the officials at the game spotted the incident, which cameras showed clearly. From the replays, it looked like a clear red card offence, and the FA apparently agrees, hitting Cabaye with a violent conduct charge that will probably come with a three match ban. Newcastle have the chance to appeal, but the evidence seems so cut and dry that they might not want to bother. If they do not appeal, Cabaye will miss Newcastle's trips to Blackburn Rovers and Tottenham Hotspur as well as the home match against Aston Villa.
