Rajko Lekic Leaves Revolution, Signs In Denmark

A New England Revolution team that struggled to score a year ago has now lost another key offensive player as Rajko Lekic has signed with a team in Denmark. Lekic never developed into the scoring dynamo the Revolution had hoped he would, but his six goals in 23 appearances were the second highest total on the team and it doesn't appear that there's someone currently on the roster forcing his way into the lineup.

Still, he was probably a touch overpaid at more than $200,000. Even though he was apparently willing to take a pay cut, he was less willing to come back with something less than a guaranteed contract. The Bent Musket believes that was the ultimate sticking point:

The Dane contended that with a family that he had relocated to America hanging in the balance, he couldn’t gamble on the possibility that the club could leave him in a lurch come spring time. Frankly, this is a good move on his part. Semi-guaranteed contracts have been a normal practice in MLS since its inception, but nowadays it seems almost disrespectful to sign a guy with Lekic’s pedigree to that kind of deal.
