As has been the case for more than a week now, Chelsea and Bolton Wanderers are agreed in a £7 million fee for Gary Cahill, but personal are holding the deal up. Some questioned if the deal was done or maybe there was a hold up because Cahill will not play in Bolton's FA Cup tie, but Bolton manager Owen Coyle dismissed those claims. In fact, the manager thinks that Cahill and Chelsea may agree by the end of the week, allowing the central defender to make the move to Stamford Bridge.
Owen Coyle Says Gary Cahill Deal Could Be Done By Sunday
“[The rest is] nothing to do with the continuing speculation regarding Chelsea. He’s one of a number of players that probably needs to rest,” Coyle said. “And moving on, my opinion is I think there’s a chance the deal can be concluded by the end of the week. That’s where we’re at, but I’m not a party to any continued dialogue between Chelsea and Gary’s representative.”
With the personal terms still holding up the deal, there has been speculation that Bolton could look to sell Cahill to another club. Manchester United has been brought up as a possibility, but Coyle also dismissed that speculation.
“When there’s continued conjecture and everything that goes with it people are always going to throw up names,” Coyle said. “There hasn’t been any dialogue between ourselves and Manchester United or anything like that. We as a football club agreed a deal with Chelsea Football Club and for me that’s binding.”
