Neil Warnock Fired By Queens Park Rangers

QPR boss Neil Warnock has been fired after a disappointing start to the season that’s seen the newly-promoted side earn just 17 points from 20 matches.

Queens Park Rangers have parted company with manager Neil Warnock after almost two years after a series of poor results that sees the side facing a relegation battle in their first year back in the Premier League. It’s not quite what the Championship winners were expecting from their season, and Warnock was the obvious scapegoat. In a statement released by the club, Tony Fernades said the typical platitudes:

This decision has been made in the best interests of the Club and I can assure everyone that this is not a decision that was made lightly. Sadly, our recent run of poor form has seen us slip alarmingly down the table and the Board felt it was the right time to make a change.

Neil has acted with honesty, professionalism and integrity throughout his time at the Club, and I would personally like to thank him for his significant contribution to QPR over the last 22 months. I genuinely wish him all the very best for the future and he will always be welcome back at Loftus Road.

So that’s pretty boring. Former Manchester City and Fulham boss Mark Hughes is the bookies’ favourite to take the reins at Loftus Road, but there are some other names being thrown out there too - Sven Goran Eriksen would be an interesting outside bet. As for Warnock, he’ll presumably take some time off before throwing his name into the manager pool this summer.
