Mark Hughes Appointed Queens Park Rangers Manager

In a move that's presumably been in the works for some time now, former Manchester United star Mark Hughes has joined Queens Park Rangers as manager, replacing the recently-fired Neil Warnock. Hughes, 48, has plenty of experience at the helm of top flight teams, having previously managed Blackburn Rovers, Manchester City and Fulham before mysteriously quitting his post at Craven Cottage over the summer.

QPR chairman Tony Fernandes played new-manager-madlibs in a brief statement:

Mark has a proven track record in the Premier League, bringing a wealth of experience at both club and international level. He has a great passion to achieve as a manager and has already been hugely successful in his career.

His ambitions match those of the board and we are delighted to have him at the helm.

The club currently lie just above the relegation zone and Hughes, who’s signed through the end of the 2013/14 season, will have a major fight on his hands in keeping them in the league. With a new manager there’ll probably be some significant investment into the squad this January, so more reinforcements should be on the way. Whether or not that’ll be enough... well, time will tell.
