An unconvincing performance from England has nonetheless resulted in a 1-0 lead at half-time after Rooney headed the Three Lions into the lead in Warsaw.

It was the returning Steven Gerrard who helped to set up the goal, delivering a corner which Rooney met with a glancing header, sending the ball into the net via a defender's shoulder.
It was a fortunate lead for England, who have looked careless and disorganised for most of the half, with Michael Carrick and Steven Gerrard guilty of wasting possession on several occasions. Poland, however, have largely been unable to capitalise in a game with little flow and largely centred around a midfield slog. The home side had their best chance towards the end of the half, when Poland sprung a counter-attack after England carelessly gave the ball away, but Kamil Grosicki fired wide after being teed up by Robert Lewandowski.
With few chances at either end, the hosts will have to change things around if they are to capitalise on England's lack of composure. England, meanwhile, perhaps need some genuine width as an alternative - it's not happening for them in midfield at all.
