Tottenham vs. Chelsea: Lineups

Brad Friedel makes a surprise return to Spurs’ starting XI as they take on Chelsea at White Hart Lane.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas has put Brad Friedel back in the starting line-up as Tottenham take on Chelsea.

The American veteran recently had a lengthy run of consecutive games broken by Hugo Lloris, but he has now been reinstated in the team to take on Chelsea in a London derby. Jermain Defoe is also preferred to Emmanuel Adebayor in another selection surprise for Tottenham, while Gylfi Sigurdsson replaces the injured Moussa Dembele in midfield.

Gareth Bale had been named in the starting lineup, but Tottenham issued a correction, replacing him with Tom Huddlestone, after he reportedly left White Hart Lane due to his partner going into labour.

Chelsea, meanwhile, opt for Ramires and John Obi Mikel in midfield to form the double pivot in their 4-2-3-1 formation. John Terry's absence through his four-match ban means that David Luiz and Gary Cahill start at centre-back.

Tottenham Hotspur (4-2-3-1): Brad Friedel, Jan Vertonghen, Steven Caulker, William Gallas, Kyle Walker; Sandro, Gylfi Sigurdsson; Aaron Lennon, Clint Dempsey, Tom Huddlestone; Jermain Defoe.

Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Petr Cech; Branislav Ivanovic, Gary Cahill, David Luiz, Ashley Cole; Ramires, John Obi Mikel; Juan Mata, Oscar, Eden Hazard; Fernando Torres.
