The luck of the draw did not stick the viewing public with a random autumn Clasico double in the Copa Del Rey. Such a shame. Real Madrid and Barcelona are unlikely to get through the tournament without meeting each other, as per usual, and both have relatively straightforward draws for the fourth round.
Copa Del Rey, Fourth Round: Three all-La Liga draws, easy matchups for Barcelona and Real Madrid
Real Madrid and Barcelona both take on third division sides, while Sevilla and Espanyol contest the best tie of the round.
Barcelona play on Tuesday, and are likely to rest all of their first choice players for a match away to third tier side Alaves. They were in La Liga as recently as 2006, but lasted just one season in the top flight and three seasons in the Segunda before heading down to the Segunda Division B in 2009.
Jose Mourinho’s side are in a similar situation, against Alcoyano, who were relegated from the Segunda last season. Real Madrid Castilla, like Barcelona B, are a mid-table Segunda team, meaning that the Madrid reserves will be favored to progress in Copa Del Rey.
Copa Del Rey ties are home and away, decided by aggregate score. The return legs are in just under a month, during the week of November 26.
