Charlie Adam notched his first goal as a member of Stoke City as the Potters beat relegation-threatened Queens Park Rangers, sending their guests back to the bottom of the Premier League. It was a very Stokey match, with the home side largely out-played and outchanced by their guests only to go ahead via a messy goalmouth scramble and stubbornly cling onto their lead.
Stoke City vs. QPR: Final score 1-0 as QPR’s struggles continue
QPR -- manager Mark Hughes in particular -- will be mortified that they didn't go more to convert their opportunities. Adel Taarabt blew a golden first-half chance after being fed by Junior Hoillet, chipping over when it looked just as easy to score. Esteban Granero did somewhat better with his attempt in the second half, at least getting his effort on target, but Asmir Begovic was up to the task, stopping the shot with an excellent save.
And in between those chances, Stoke had gone 1-0 up. Robert Huth swung in a free kick that bounced off first Jonathan Walters and Peter Crouch before falling at the back post for Adam to stab home. The lead would hold up, and the hosts moved into 12th place.
