Norwich City vs. Manchester United 2012: Preview and TV schedule

Manchester United travel to Carrow Road to face Norwich as two in-form teams meet in Saturday’s late kick-off.

Clive Rose

Manchester United face a trip to Carrow Road to take on a resurgent Norwich City in Saturday's late game.

The Canaries had got off to a poor start to the season under new boss Chris Hughton, but their form has now stabilised thanks to their improved defence as they seek to move clear of the relegation zone. Norwich are unbeaten in their last five games, having defeated both Arsenal and Tottenham, but they face a team in even greater form, with United on a five-match streak of wins in the Premier League.

Robin van Persie, who was missing for international duty, is likely to start for United, along with the also-fresh Wayne Rooney, although the in-form Javier Hernandez will likely feature at some point too. Jonny Evans is fit to play in defence, but Chris Smalling may also be up for selection, along with the returning Phil Jones as United get more players back fresh, enjoying more options now than at any point in the season so far.

A victory for United will leave them top of the table regardless of how other results go, but already having a few fortunate wins under his belt, Sir Alex Ferguson will be delighted at the prospect of putting daylight between his side and Manchester City and Chelsea while the season is still at an early stage.

Norwich City injuries and suspensions

In doubt: Harry Kane (ankle), Russell Martin (back).

Manchester United injuries and suspensions

Out: Shinji Kagawa (knee), Nemanja Vidic (knee), Nani (hamstring). In doubt: Phil Jones (knee).

Norwich City almost have a fully-fit squad, but Harry Kane and Russell Martin will undergo late fitness tests before the game.

Phil Jones may finally make his comeback for Manchester United, although it is still too soon for Shinji Kagawa and Nemanja Vidic, while Nani is not expected to be available until United’s next game against Galatasaray.
