UEFA Europa League 2012: Final scores and recap

Napoli went through, Liverpool were denied against Young Boys, and Marseille crashed out in the late games in the Europa League.

Liverpool 2-2 Young Boys

Liverpool took the lead but were pegged back twice by a pair of excellent goals from Young Boys. Jonjo Shelvey put the Reds in the lead from Joe Cole's cross, before Raul Bobadilla equalised with some excellent close control to get past Jordan Henderson before lashing a volley past Pepe Reina from a tight angle. Joe Cole then put Liverpool ahead before Elsad Zverotic scored a screamer late on to take the qualification battle to the final round of games.

AIK Solna 1-2 Napoli

The Italians managed to get themselves through to the next round thanks to a last-gasp penalty from Edinson Cavani after Salvatore Aronica had been sent off. All the Italian teams in the competition are now through except for Udinese.

Atletico Madrid 1-0 Hapoel Tel-Aviv

Atletico were already through, but an early goal from Raul Garcia proved enough for the Spanish side to cruise past Hapoel.

Borussia Monchengladbach 2-0 AEL Limassol

An Igor De Camargo brace gave Borussia Monchengladbach a comfortable win over AEL Limassol, a result that confirms their progression to the next round at Marseille’s expense.

Club Bruges 1-2 Bordeaux

A defeat for Bruges thanks to a Jussie brace means that they won't progress to the next round, and Newcastle will.

Marseille 0-1 Fenerbahce

Marseille’s miserable home defeat thanks to a Bekir Irtegun goal means that, combined with Monchengladbach’s victory, the French side are out of the competition at the group stage, a hugely disappointing exit.

Academica 1-1 Plzen

Plzen were already through and played out a draw in a largely meaningless fixture.

FK Molde 1-2 FC Copenhagen

Newly-crowned Norwegian champions Molde couldn’t translate their form to the European stage as they suffered defeat and a group stage exit thanks to goals from Cesar Santin and Rurik Gislason. Copenhagen, against the odds, can now qualify should they beat Steaua in the final round.

Newcastle 1-1 Maritimo

A Sylvain Marveaux goal gave the Magpies the lead before Fidelis levelled the scores for the visitors, but results elewhere meant that Newcastle progressed and Maritimo crashed out.

PSV Eindhoven 1-2 Dnipro

Another good result for Ukrainian sides in the competition as Dnipro eased their way past PSV thanks to goals from Yevhen Konoplyankya and Yevhen Seleznyov, despite being reduced to ten men late on.

Steaua Bucharest 1-5 VfB Stuttgart

A weakened Steaua, who had been in fine form but were already through, were demolished on their own turf by a ruthless Stuttgart. The German team were 5-0 up after 55 minutes with goals from Serdar Tasci, Martin Harnik, Gotoku Sakai and a Shinji Okazaki brace. Mihai Costea grabbed a small consolation for the hosts late on. The victory gives Stuttgart and Copenhagen a chance to qualify, setting up a potentially thrilling conclusion to the group.
