Wolfsburg and Werder Bremen played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday. Both sides will be disappointed with the result, but it was enough for Wolfsburg to put space between themselves and the relegation zone.

The hosts struck the post twice in the first half hour thanks to Makoto Hasebe and Bas Dost. However, it was Bremen that took the lead first. Eljero Elia dribbled to the goal line before crossing the ball into Marko Arnautovic. He knocked it in past Diego Benaglio for the 1-0 lead after 35 minutes.

The hosts went a man down in the 62nd minute when Lukas Schmidt was sent off for his second yellow card for a foul on Vieirinha. Two minutes later the score was level. Diego played a through ball to Vieirinha, and he crossed a ball into Dost who easily slotted it home for the equalizer.

Sebastian Mielitz had to make some excellent saves late in the match on Dost and Olic to keep the score level. Bremen almost stole all three points at the end of the match, but Aaron Hunt’s free kick struck the post.
