With a trip to Bayern Munich ahead of them this weekend, Borussia Dortmund took their eye off of their opponents and dropped points at home to Fortuna Düsseldorf.

Fortuna Düsseldorf grabbed a point away to Borussia Dortmund with a 1-1 draw on Tuesday.

The visitors set out to defend from the get go and frustrated BVB for long periods of time throughout the first half. BVB’s first real challenge came when Marco Reus ripped a shot at Fabian Giefer that the goalkeeper tipped over the bar for a corner kick. The hosts struck minutes later with Jakub Blaszczykowski volleying in a goal just before the halftime whistle.

Dortmund took their foot off the gas in the second half, and Düsseldorf made them pay for it in the 78th minute. Robbie Kruse sent in a cross and Stefan Reisinger headed it past Roman Weidenfeller to equalize.

Düsseldorf’s Ivan Paurevic was sent off with minutes remaining in the contest, but they were able to hold on for the draw.

BVB failed to put more pressure on Bayern Munich who play Freiburg on Wednesday. They are now eight points behind the leaders. Düsseldorf managed to put a little more distance between themselves and the relegation zone.
