Stuttgart vs. Augsburg: Final score 2-1, Traore and Ibisevic lead Stuttgart to victory

Stuttgart picked up a necessary win at home against hapless Augsburg.

Alexander Hassenstein

Stuttgart picked up a much needed 2-1 victory over struggling Augsburg to move into 11th in the table. Augsburg remain rooted to the bottom on only 7 points.

The hosts took an early lead when Vedad Ibisevic broke down the side before crossing to the middle of the box. Ibrahima Traore was on hand to knock it in past Simon Jentzsch to give Stuttgart the 1-0 advantage.

Augsburg equalized just before halftime on a spectacular goal from South Korean international Koo Ja-Cheol. He picked up the ball at midfield and dribbled deep into Stuttgart’s half before unleashing a brilliant shot that beat Bernd Leno.

However, Stuttgart retook the lead in the 69th minute, and this time Traore and Ibisevic swapped roles. Traore swing in a free kick, and Ibisevic lept above everyone and headed it in for the winner.

We’re starting to see a gap between Hoffenheim in 16th place and Greuther Fürth and Augsburg in 17th and 18th place. Markus Weinzierl’s side is struggling.
