Manchester United vs. Arsenal: Robin van Persie gives hosts lead

Take a bow, Thomas Vermaelen -- you're now an Old Trafford favourite. Arsenal are down 1-0 against Manchester United thanks to an awful mistake from the Belgian centre back, seized upon by none other than former Gunners ace Robin van Persie.

Antonio Valencia played a brilliant pass for right back Rafael da Silva, steaming down the flank. The young Brazilian's cross was frankly rubbish, hit straight at Vermaelen, but when the defender tried to clear he mad a complete hash of things, presenting possession to van Persie at the edge of the penalty box.

He doesn't miss from there, and didn't, beating Vito Mannone at his far post to give Manchester United the lead. The story, of course, will be that it was van Persie who scored. It shouldn't be -- questions need to be asked about the nigh-on continual horrendous mistakes that are being made by Arsenal's back line of late.
