For the whole of his career, Lionel Messi has proudly worn the adidas adizero f50 boot on his feet. It's gone through a number of major changes over the last eight years in terms of function and design. The original adidas f50 was released on the eve of Euro 2004 and was meant to be an all-weather boot. In 2006, adidas launched the +F50.6 TUNIT, a fully customizable boot that allowed the wearer to change the outsole, insole, upper, and studs on the fly.
Lionel Messi will debut the new adidas adizero f50 tonight against Celtic in the Champions League
Not to be outdone by Cristiano Ronaldo and his new bespoke Nike Mercurial Vapors, adidas have unveiled the newest iteration of their adizero f50 speed boot

After a few years of design changes, the f50 adizero launched in the buildup to World Cup 2010 in South Africa. The new look featured a weight of 5.8 ounces (165 grams), a staggeringly low figure. Last year, the f50 adizero II launched and featured the revolutionary adidas miCoach Speedcell chip to track player performance. Now, adidas are unveiling the latest version of their lightning boot, the f50 adizero, and it's only fitting that Lionel Messi debuts it.
The boot will get its first official runout tonight with FC Barcelona travelling to Celtic Park to take on the Scottish champions. It took an injury time goal for Barcelona to walk out with three points at the Camp Nou the last time around.
The boot still weighs the ridiculously light 5.8 ounces (165 grams) and still features the miCoach Speedcell chip, nested into a small cavity under the wearer’s foot. The upper is a 1.5mm thick synthetic known as Sprintskin and features a 3D-printed texture designed to help with ball control as well as provide stability and shape to the thin, light boot. The stud pattern remains unchanged from previous versions of the adizero.
Messi will wear it exclusively tonight before other adidas stars work their way into the shoe later this month. Dani Alves, Karim Benzema, David Silva, and David Villa, among others, are all set to wear the new adidas adizero f50.
