Holger Badstuber ruptures knee ligaments

Lennart Preiss

Bad news for Bayern Munich: Holger Badstuber's season is in serious jeopardy after the centre back hurt his knee in the match against Borussia Dortmund. The injury, which occured late in the first half of the match when he tackled Mario Gotze, looked serious from the beginning -- the defender's knee was clearly badly twisted and he looked to be in a great deal of pain when he was stretchered off -- and now Bayern's worst fears have been confirmed:

With Badstuber an integral part of the defence and Bayern gunning for glory on multiple fronts, this injury really couldn’t have come at a worse time. Jurgen Klopp had to switch to a pairing of Dante-Jerome Boateng for the remainder of the Dortmund match, but it’s not clear that he’ll persist with that in the long run. We may very well see Bayern in the market for centre back depth come January.
