Werder Bremen vs. Nürnberg: Final score 1-1, Bremen rescue a point late

Werder Bremen will count themselves lucky to come away with a 1-1 draw against Nürnberg in a match that they controlled throughout.

It was a very busy day for Raphael Schäfer. The Nürnberg goalkeeper deflected a shot from Kevin De Bruyne off of his own goal post in the eighth minute. A few minutes later he was called upon to make a save on a header from defender Theodor Gebre Selassie. Nils Petersen scored in the 14th minute, but it was ruled back for offside.

The second half started much of the same for Bremen. Petersen’s shot skipped off the crossbar, and De Bruyne struck the post in the 61st minute. However, it was Nürnberg that found the back of the net first. De Bruyne turned the ball over, and Javier Pinola played the ball to Timo Gebhart. The midfielder took a touch before shooting outside the penalty past Sebastian Mielitz for the goal.

Bremen turned their attack into overdrive and were finally rewarded just a few minutes later. De Bruyne ripped a shot on frame, and Peterson deflected it past Schäfer into the back of the net. On the replay it appeared that he may have been in an offside position, but the goal stood for the 1-1 draw.
