Nigel de Jong suffers Achilles injury

Marco Luzzani

Bad news for AC Milan: Nigel de Jong won't be playing for a while. The midfielder came off in the 24th minute of Milan's 4-2 victory against Torino, and it was revealed after the match the he's expected to miss the rest of the season.

A bitter sweet Sunday. De Jong’s [Achilles tendon] has snapped and that means the season is over for him. It’s a big loss for the team and takes the shine off the win.

De Jong had started 14 games more Milan since arriving from Manchester City in August, and his loss in a major blow for a side that's going to have some major trouble controlling midfield without him around. They'll probably drop Riccardo Montolivo a little deeper to compensate for now, but he's hardly a real enforcer, and it looks fairly likely that Milan are going to have to spend in January in order to find a real replacement.
