Camilo Sanvezzo, Vancouver Whitecaps Agree To Terms

After a somewhat protracted dispute over the appropriate wages, the Vancouver Whitecaps and Camilo Sanvezzo have agreed to terms on a new contract, the team announced on Wednesday. The 23-year-old Brazilian forward was one of the top scorers in MLS last year, bagging 12 goals and three assists for the last-place Whitecaps.

“We’re delighted to agree to new contract terms with Camilo,” Whitecaps coach Martin Rennie said in a team release. “He had an outstanding first season with us and will be an important part of our squad for years to come. Camilo can play up front as a striker or as a wide attacking midfielder. He’s got plenty of pace and skill, plus a real nose for goal. He’s also a big threat on set-pieces in and around the opposition’s penalty box.”

In Camilo, Eric Hassli and the newly acquired Sebastien Le Toux, the Whitecaps are currently the only MLS team to boast three forwards who scored at least 10 goals last season. Combine them with youngsters like Omar Salgado, Darren Mattocks and Long Tang, as well as last year's NASL-scoring leader Etienne Barbara and you have arguably the most interesting strike force in all of MLS.
