Inter Milan Vs. Palermo, 2012 Serie A: Match Of The Year Ends In 4-4 Draw

Add some snow, a four-goal game for Diego Milito, a hat trick for Fabrizio Miccoli and an equalizer five minutes from time together and what do you get? One of the best matches of the year is what and that's what Inter Milan and Palermo played on Wednesday at the San Siro. The drama and excitement was unmatched and at the end of a thrilling 90 minutes, the teams were deadlocked at 4-4, which is a fair result for two teams who played such an incredible match.

Andrea Mantovani opened the scoring after 16 minutes to put Palermo in front, but from then on it was all Milito and Miccoli. Six minutes after Palermo went on top, Milito responded with a good shot from an angle that he slid into the bottom corner.

That 1-1 scoreline held until halftime, but then the second half started and everything went bananas. Miccoli opened his account just after the break when he managed to hold off Andrea Ranocchia before clinically finishing to the far post. Whatever Miccoli could do, Milito could do better though so when Yuto Nagatomo was dragged down in the box, Milito put the penalty away and Inter were back level at 2-2.

Milito then completed his hat trick just after the hour mark, although he got some help from the linesman. The Argentinean brought down a header by Esteban Cambiasso and slipped around the goalkeeper before slotting the ball home, but replays showed him to be offside. The flag stayed down though so the goal counted and Inter led 3-2.

Miccoli did his best to keep pace just five minutes later when he nodded hom Federico Balzaretti’s cross to bring things leve, but it took Milito only two more minutes to put Inter in front when a ball happened to just bounce to him in front of goal and a simple touch put it across the line.

The goals would not stop and while Miccoli would not be able to match Milito’s four goals, he was able to get Palermo to match Inter when he completed his hat trick five minutes from time. Josip Ilicic played Miccoli in and the referee’s flag stayed down, allowing him to finish easily and complete a thrilling 90 minutes with a 4-4 draw.
