And there's the equaliser, just before halftime. Montpellier have responded very well to going behind to that thunderbolt of a free kick from Alex in the 41st minute, driving forward for the remainder of the half and levelling just before the whistle via Younes Belhanda. Paris Saint-Germain only partially cleared a corner kick, allowing Olivier Giroud to recycle the ball and feed Vitorino Hilton. The right back's cross was excellent and Belhanda, unmarked, simply needed to head past Salvatore Sirigu from point-blank range. He did.
Paris Saint-Germain Vs. Montpellier, 2012 Ligue 1: Visitors Level Just Before Halftime
So that’s the first half over and I think it’d be fair to say that Montpellier have been marginally the better side, despite the 1-1 scoreline. Alex’s goal, great as it was, came against the run of play -- the visitors have had roughly equal possession but have looked a bit more dangerous on the attack.
That’s not to say they were particularly dangerous, however. The flurry of goals just before the break has probably been a little deceptive, because there wasn’t that much going on beforehand. Aside from a few moments where Sirigu had to scramble to defend a cross, the only things of interests have been bookings for Jamelle Saihi and PSG’s Mamadou Sahko, the latter causing something of a flashpoint after he wiped out Souleymane Camara on the halfway line.
