Sporting Kansas City Inks Graham Zusi To New Contract

Graham Zusi had a breakout season for Sporting Kansas City in 2011 and was a big reason the club advanced to the Eastern Conference final, so they decided to get him a gift. That gift is a new contract that will keep him in Kansas City going forward and almost certainly comes with a well-deserved raise.

“I am thrilled to stay with Sporting Kansas City,” Zusi said. “The culture, fans, atmosphere and organization are top-notch and our objectives are the same, to win championships. I know we will all work hard on and off the field and commit ourselves to reach our goals.”

The midfielder made 35 appearances for Sporting in 2011, scoring five goals and tallying 11 assists. His play also earned him a call up to the United States team for their January friendlies against Venezuela and Panama so it is safe to safe that the arrow is pointing up on the 25-year-old and the club are sure happy to be keeping him around.

"Zeus (Zusi) had a very good year last year and we feel that his best is still yet to come," Sporting Kansas City Manager Peter Vermes said. "His intangibles on the field, matched with his competitiveness, are a great fit for our team and re-signing him was a priority this off-season."

Who wouldn’t want to keep a guy called “Zeus” around?
