It’s not too often that Fulham can announced they’ve signed a former Real Madrid man, but in acquiring Mahamadou Diarra they’ve done exactly that. The Cottagers have secured the midfielder’s services for the rest of the season on a free transfer, and if they like what they see, he’ll stick around for next year as well. Diarra’s been out of work all season, having left Monaco following their relegation from Ligue Un last season, and will be hoping to get his career back on track after three and a half virtually lost seasons.
Fulham Sign Mahamadou Diarra
Fulham have signed former Real Madrid and Lyon midfielder Mahamadou Diarra on a free transfer for the rest of the season.

It’s amazing to think that Diarra was once a powerhouse for an excellent Lyon side as well as a key part of Fabio Capello’s Real Madrid, but he’s been nothing like the same player since sustaining a knee injury during international duty in the 2008/09 season. By the time he recovered, he found that he’d been effectively replaced by Xabi Alonso in a new-look Madrid team and never really got a look in for the remainder of his contract. Fulham, of course, will be hoping he recaptures some of his old form with the club, and although that’s unlikely it’s well worth the gamble on a free.
