Defender Chris Smalling knocked heads with Klass-Jan Huntelaar during England’s friendly against the Netherlands and was stretchered off the pitch. He has been taken to the hospital.
Chris Smalling Injury: Defender Taken To Hospital After Collision
Huntelaar left under his own power, but Smalling had to be taken off via a stretcher. He cut his head open and was bleeding profusely. Additionally, he appeared to briefly go unconscious. Though he was conscious as he left the field, there will be concerns about a head injury beyond the cut.
Following the match England interim manager Stuart Pearce confirmed that Smalling had been taken to the hospital, but did not elaborate. It is not yet known if he merely needed stitches or if he suffered a concussion when he knocked heads with Huntelaar.
