Toronto FC midfielder Torsten Frings will miss 4-6 weeks with what his team deemed a hamstring strain. The injury occurred during Toronto FC's 3-1 loss to the Seattle Sounders on Saturday when Frings made a clean tackle from behind of David Estrada, who would have been 1-on-1 with the goalkeeper. The tackle may well have saved a goal, but the resulting injury could prove to be much more important.
Torsten Frings Injury Update: Toronto FC Midfielder Will Miss 4-6 Weeks
Toronto FC’s Torsten Frings will at least miss the CONCACAF Champions League semifinal against Santos Laguna after straining his hamstring.

Since Frings joined Toronto FC late last year, the Reds have enjoyed a rather remarkable turnaround. Even after Saturday’s loss, they are 8-7-8 across all competitions and recent became just the second MLS team to ever qualify for the CONCACAF Champions League semifinals.
While their record may not be so remarkable, consider they were the worst team in MLS for most of the 2011 season before Frings and Danny Koevermans showed up.
Frings, especially, has helped turn around a defense that was downright awful. Although he’s listed as a midfielder, he really plays more of a sweeper role as a fifth defender. He is often positioned behind the centerbacks and his defensive acumen has allowed the Red outside backs to be far more aggressive.
The injury means Frings will at least be lost for the CCL semifinal against Santos Laguna. The semifinal starts next week and concludes in two weeks. Even if Frings misses the minimum four weeks, the soonest he could be back is the second leg of the CCL final.
