Ligue 1 makes no sense so stop trying to figure it out and just watch

Welcome to another week of Ligue 1 action. If you claim to have any idea what’s going on, you’re lying through your teeth.

Nice vs. Marseille

Saturday 3/24; 19:00 CET/2:00 PM ET

Remember that whole thing where Marseille looked really good again and I said they could make a run at the Champions League and may well be the best team in France?

Whoops.

Pick: Draw, 2-2

Montpellier vs. St. Etienne

Saturday 3/24; 19:00 CET/2:00 PM ET

Since St. Etienne is actually a good team, Montpellier should have little trouble.

Pick: Montpellier, 2-1

Ajaccio vs. Lorient

Saturday 3/24; 19:00 CET/2:00 PM ET

16th place Ajaccio is just three points from the bottom but could find themselves as high as 11th with a win while 12th place Lorient could be in danger of dropping to 17th (and just a point shy of the drop) with a loss. This league is about as chaotic as the Headless Horseman riding a headless horse.*

Pick: Ajaccio, 2-1

*Sincere apologies to Mitch Hedberg.

Brest vs. Nancy

Saturday 3/24; 19:00 CET/2:00 PM ET

If you make it through this game without falling asleep, it’s not recreational anymore. That stuff can ruin lives (not to mention teeth!) and you really, really need to seek help.

Pick: Draw, 0-0

Evian vs. Lille

Saturday 3/24; 19:00 CET/2:00 PM ET

Evian is the only team in the bottom half of the table with a legitimate hold on safety, while Lille is the only team in the top half of the table with a legitimate hold on Joe Cole.

I wonder if they wanna’ do tradesies.

Pick: Lille, 3-2

Valenciennes vs. Rennes

Saturday 3/24; 21:00 CET/4:00 PM ET

Last week’s loss to Toulouse (by the completely stunning margin of 1-0) likely ended Rennes’ Champions League hopes, but there’s still Europa to aim for!

:D

Pick: Rennes, 2-1

Toulouse vs. Auxerre

Sunday 3/25; 16:00 CET/11:00 AM ET

I think it’s important to note that Auxerre has outscored Toulouse this season, which is a thing that makes me go “aaaaahhhhh” and kind of shake my head back-and-forth.

Pick: Toulouse, 1-0

Dijon vs. Caen

Sunday 3/25; 16:00 CET/11:00 AM ET

Are you kidding me? My choice on Sunday is between this and watching Toulouse? What did I ever do to you, Ligue 1?

Oh, right. These previews.

Pick: Draw, 2-2

PSG vs. Bordeaux

Sunday 3/25; 21:00 CET/4:00 PM ET

There’s a whole lot that looks promising about this game, but no part of me thinks it’s going to be entertaining. I choose to blame Carlo Ancelotti, because why not.

Pick: PSG, 2-0
