Chievo Verona Vs. AC Milan, 2012 Serie A: Rossoneri Squeak Out 1-0 Win

AC Milan played some putrid football on Tuesday, but one good strike and some decent defending helped them to a win over Chievo Verona.

AC Milan were not entertaining by any stretch of the imagination, though one could potentially stretch their imagination in order to describe them as "good." The Rossoneri were, however, winners in Verona on Tuesday night, even though they did not play to the best of their abilities. They scored one goal in the eighth minute, then sat on their lead for the rest of the game in a 1-0 victory over Chievo.

The goal was scored by Sulley Muntari, and it was a beautiful strike, though the goal probably shouldn't have been scored. Chievo certainly made it easy on him, giving him acres of space as he dribbled through the middle of the park. As Muntari got closer and closer to the penalty area, the Flying Donkeys continued to look allergic to closing down and allowed him to unleash a shot from 25 yards out with no one challenging him. He hit a powerful and accurate shot to the near post, but it was still an unscreened shot to the near post, and Stefano Sorrentino probably should have got a hand to it. Instead, he reacted slowly and was beaten by the shot.

That would be one of only two shots on target for Milan, and one of only five total shots. Chievo had more possession than their opponents and were a little more ambitious going forward, but lacked the ideas to create clear chances. Chievo created what looked like an equalizer in stoppage time, but it was waved off as Francesco Acerbi was correctly flagged for offside.

Iran thought they had advanced to the 2026 FIFA World Cup knockout round. A less frequent aspect of the offside law disallowed the winning goal.
