Wednesday brings a plethora of matches from around the continent, including cup games in Turkey, relegation thrillers in England, and a big, big match in the Bundesliga. Over in Italy it’s time for Round 32 as we continue to watch the table fall into place.
Serie A, Week 32: Scudetto Scuffles And Relegation Battles
On Wednesday night, Juventus face Lazio in a must-win match for both teams. Meanwhile, clubs at the bottom will make last-ditch efforts to rescue themselves from relegation.
There’s no question anymore -- the scudetto is going to either Milan or Juve. The rossoneri managed all three points against Chievo on Tuesday, but will Juve have it so easy against Lazio tonight? The Romans can’t afford to lose any ground, lest rivals Roma fall to Udinese, which would bring the zebrette even with Lazio in third. Napoli are right behind, although back to back losses to Juve and Lazio mean the possibility of Champions League play next season is slowly slipping out of reach. A loss to Atalanta tonight may mean they need to resign themselves to the Europa League for next season.
As for the other end of the table, Cesena seems to have almost sewn her spot in Serie B next season. Fortunately for the Seahorses, Genoa appear to want to join their rivals Sampdoria in the lower leagues, and they just might pull off a win this week -- although that’s just going to be like placing a plaster where you need a tourniquet. Lecce’s surprise win over Roma last week means they’re within four points of safety, so don’t count out a fightback yet. Problem is, they’ve got Vincenzo Montella’s Catania standing in their way, and this man really wants some European play. Meanwhile, Parma could leap to near certain safety with a win over Novara, which should be fairly simple.
