Chelsea Will Be Opponent In 2012 MLS All-Star Game

Chelsea will be the opponent in the 2012 MLS All-Star Game, it was officially announced on Wednesday. The announcement confirms a report nearly two weeks ago by Brotherly Game. The game will be played on July 25 at the Philadelphia Union’s PPL Park.

This will mark the second time that Chelsea has been the All-Star Game opponent. They made their All-Star Game debut in 2006, losing 1-0 at Toyota Park. This will also be the fifth straight year and the seventh time in eight seasons that the All-Star Game opponent has been from the English Premier League.

Although Chelsea is currently having a less-than-glorious EPL season -- they are currently sixth in the table and out of a qualifying spot for European competition -- there’s a possibility they could come to PPL Park as the defending UEFA Champions League winners. Chelsea just advanced to the semifinals, where they are the only EPL representative remaining and are preparing to face Barcelona. The first leg is on April 18.
