Just in time for ... well, I'm not exactly sure ... the United States has released yet another new shirt. As previously speculated, these ones are white with red hoops ... or is it red with white hoops? In any case, the most prominent feature is the horizontal lines. They also have kept the sash.

Perhaps the best piece of news is that these shirts will be accompanied by dark blue shorts, which is a refreshing change from the current crop of matchy-matchy kits.

The other somewhat notable news appears to be that the men and women will both be wearing these kits, or at least that’s the assumption one could make based on U.S. Soccer’s Facebook page. Definitely not a bad branding idea.
For my money, I also think these are improvement over the most recently released kits. If you need a reminder, those had blue chests and white sleeves, which gave them a decided “softball” look.
Improvement or not, these still have a long ways to go in terms of branding. There’s just no thread, aside from the sash, that seems to tie these together in a meaningful way.
