After spending the last three seasons with Danish Superliga club Aalborg BK, Chris Rolfe has returned to the Chicago Fire. The signing was announced on Monday just before the close of MLS's spring transfer window.

"We are excited to have Chris rejoin the Chicago Fire," Fire coach Frank Klopas said in a team release. "Chris is a proven goal scorer with experience in MLS and abroad. Chris will help us as we push for the MLS Cup Playoffs and we are happy to welcome him back to the club."

Rolfe made his professional debut with the Fire after being picked in the 2005 SuperDraft. He is still the second leading scorer in team history with 36 goals and 18 assists in 123 MLS appearances. In each of his five seasons with the Fire, he scored at least six goals, with his best season coming in 2008 when he tallied nine goals and eight assists in 1,960 minutes. He appeared in 32 matches and scored six goals during his three seasons in Denmark.

“I’m thrilled to return to Chicago and play for the Chicago Fire,” said Rolfe. “The Fire has always been a special place for me. I look forward to getting in and putting in the work to help the team.”

Rolfe did not have to go through the allocation process as the Fire retained his rights when he left for Denmark. He has also made 10 appearances for the United States national team, but none since 2008.
