It doesn't look like anyone can beat Sporting Kansas City right now. Four days after beating the next best team in MLS, Real Salt Lake, Sporting went to Vancouver and dismantled the Whitecaps on Wednesday night, 3-1. Kansas City is now a perfect 7-0-0 on the season and looking nearly unbeatable.
Vancouver Whitecaps Vs. Sporting Kansas City, 2012 MLS: SKC Keeps On Rolling With 3-1 Win
Early pressure paid off for Sporting in the 24th minute when Aurelien Collin put the visitors in front. A corner kick was not cleared so Sporting was able to try another cross, which also wasn't cleared. Eventually a scrum in front knocked the ball toward the post, where Collin came flying in to knock the ball over the line for the opening goal.
With Sporting playing so well, they don't exactly need any help, but Martin Bonjour gave them some just after halftime. The Whitecaps defender knocked a corner kick into his own net, leaving Joe Cannon helpless as Kansas City went in front, 2-0.
Sporting were not done, though. With Vancouver retreating deeper and deeper into their own half, Chance Myers got the ball with space on the right and played a good, low cross that Kei Kamara was first two. He deftly chipped it just over cannon with one touch and Kansas City were on cruise control.
It was actually the Whitecaps who led in shots and it finally paid off when Sebastien Le Toux got a goal back 11 minutes from time, but it wasn't nearly enough. Many of Vancouver's shots were speculative and they lacked the purpose of Sporting in the final third. And that's why Sporting walked away from BC Place winners and still top of the league.
