FC Dallas Vs. New England Revolution, 2012 MLS: Dallas Leaves It Late

It took 93 minutes for FC Dallas to finally beat Matt Reis. Ugo Ihemelu headed home a Zach Loyd free kick to give Dallas their second win of the season.

Ihemelu towered over Shalrie Joseph to get the game-winner. The free kick came off a foul from on Blas Perez by AJ Soares, about 30 yards away from the goal.

Dallas started the game for the first time this season in a 4-4-2 formation with the return of Fabian Castillo. His pace up top was a handful for the Revolution throughout the game.

Castillo was all over the field early on for Dallas. He helped create two chances in the first five minutes of the match, one that lead to a decent corner kick opportunity for Dallas. But it was his play in the for a few minutes around the middle of the half that brought fans to their feet. Castillo's quick feet on the wings easily beat the full backs from New England as he set up Perez and Ricardo Villar on a couple solid chances.

Moments later in the 30th minute Castillo again got behind the defense when Perez played a slick ball into the box that Castillo ran on to but his shot sailed just wide of Reis’ goal.

New England looked like a different team in the second half as Lee Nguyen helped bring some offense to life for the Revolution.

Things got interesting for Dallas after that as both Villar and George John suffered injuries within minutes of one another. Bobby Warshaw came in for Villar and rookie Matt Hedges came on for John. Hedges nearly bagged his first career goal in the 77th minute off a corner kick but the linesman ruled the ball went out of bounds and came back in on the kick from Castillo.

Dallas had a couple final gasps on goal in the 88th minute with Brek Shea firing a shot outside the penalty box on Reis. The veteran keeper made a beautiful leaping save on the shot. In stoppage time, it was Reis again making a big time stop, this time on a Shea cross into Castillo.

Dallas moves to 2-2-1, with 7 points on the season while the Revs fall to 2-3-0 on the year.
