AC Milan have been in control on top of Serie A since shortly after the winter break, but the winter champions have reclaimed first place. Just a couple of hours after Milan suffered a shocking defeat at the hands of Fiorentina, Juventus have defeated Palermo 2-0 to go top of Serie A by one point.
Juventus Vs. Palermo, 2012 Serie A: Old Lady Surge Into First
The current era Palermo side have been defined by their exciting attacking football and complete lack of proficiency on defense, but they played a different kind of game against Juventus on Saturday. They were surprisingly a conservative side, holding Juventus scoreless in the first half while only attempting two shots themselves.
Juve broke the deadlock in the 56th minute, when Leonardo Bonucci hit a brilliant header into the back of the net off of a corner kick by Andrea Pirlo. That caused things to open up a bit, but Palermo never looked like they had any ability to push for an equalizer. Juventus would double their lead 13 minutes later. Fabio Quagliarella was the scorer, curling a great left-footed shot to the back post from 18 yards out, assisted by Alessandro Matri.
