Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed Stole Solbakken as their new permanent manager. Solbakken was fired in April from Bundesliga outfit Köln after a string of poor performances had the club falling toward the relegation. Köln was officially relegated last weekend.

Before joining Köln, Solbakken was the manager at Danish powerhouse FC Copenhagen. The club won four league championships during Solbakken’s five year run in the capital.

His time at Köln can only be seen as a disaster. The team from the Cathedral City conceded 75 goals in 34 matches this season. The only offense generated by his side came from the foot of Lukas Podolski, who is leaving for Arsenal this summer. When Frank Schäfer took over the club post-Solbakken, there were complaints of a lack of defensive awareness and a complete disregard for conditioning.

Wolves will finish bottom of the table in the English Premier League this season. After Mick McCarthy being fired in February without a replacement lined up to succeed him, Wolves only picked up four points in their next 12 matches. A season in the Championship should do Solbakken well to adjust to English football, although his record in Germany won't do much to inspire Wolves fans..
