Seattle Sounders defender Zach Scott has been the latest player to draw the ire of the MLS Disciplinary Committee for his tackle from behind of Fabian Castillo in Wednesday's match. He'll be suspended one game and fined an undisclosed amount of money.
Zach Scott Suspended One Game For ‘Endangering Safety’ Of Fabian Castillo
The tackle was not particularly violent, but it was from behind and Scott did scissor Castillo’s legs. He was given a yellow card at the time. It was very similar to other tackles that have also drawn retroactive punishment. The league ruled that Scott “endangered the safety” of Castillo.
This is the second straight game that the Sounders will be missing a player due to retroactive punishment. Leo Gonzalez was forced to sit out Wednesday's game for stomping on the leg of Philadelphia Union defender Sheanon Williams.
Like Gonzalez's absence, though, the Sounders probably won't really miss Scott. Although he has started six matches, he was likely returning to the bench as starter Adam Johansson is expected to be available.
