Borussia Dortmund Vs. Bayern Munich, 2012 DFB-Pokal Final: Final Score 5-2 BVB; Dortmund Win Double

Borussia Dortmund completed their first ever league and cup double with an absolute hammering of Bayern Munich in the DFB-Pokal final. It took the Bundesliga winners all of three minutes to take the lead when they burst down the right flank, Jakub Blaszczykowski drawing Manuel Neuer out of position and then slipping the ball to Shinji Kagawa for a 16-yard open goal.

Arjen Robben leveled via the penalty spot after Roman Weidenfeller felled Mario Gomez, but BVB were not to be denied and Jerome Boateng gave away a penalty at the other end after some incredibly clumsy defending, and Mats Hummels was only too happy to restore Dortmund's advantage. Worse was to come for Bayern when Kagawa slipped in Robert Lewandowski just before the break, with Neuer making another error in allowing the forward's shot to squirm past him.

Bayern made a tactical change at the interval, replacing the dire Luis Gustavo with Thomas Muller and dropping Toni Kroos back into the pivot, but it didn't work at all as Dortmund continued to run riot, breaking at pace against an overwhelmed back line and scoring through Lewandowski again following some brilliant combination play in the Bayern box.

Although Franck Ribery made the score a little more respectable with a very nice left-footed shot in the 75th minute, it was BVB who had the last laugh when Neuer lost control of a simple through pass, giving the ball straight to Blaszczykowski for a simple chip to hand Lewandowski his hattrick. The match would finish 5-2 - Bayern have been humbled ahead of their all-important Champions League final next weekend.
