There are a handful of things in life that a certain. Included in that list are things like death and taxes. Perhaps it's time to add Paul Scholes being on the Manchester United roster to that list.

Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed today that Scholes will return to United for another season. It will be the English midfielder's 20th season, every single one of them with United.

Of course, we all recall that Scholes retired at the end of the 2010/11 season, with the club even holding a testimonial match for the midfielder who spent 18 seasons with the Red Devils. It was an impressive career and despite riding on in to the figurative sunset, Scholes returned this season with Ferguson called him up with his club in the middle of a injury crisis.

The fact that Scholes is coming back for yet another Premier League campaign is nothing short of amazing. When Scholes walked back in to the United side in January, he made an immediate impact, helping to settle the midfield and even scoring four goals in 16 appearances. Scholes’ value is more than just what he contributes on the pitch though; he’s undoubtedly a leader in the locker room and the type of veteran player that helps make everyone around him better...even if his tackles sometimes leave something to be desired.

Scholes will provide some depth and leadership but he’s not a full-time answer for improving United’s midfield. That will likely have to come from an acquisition or two in the summer.
