Sporting KC Won’t Appeal Randy Savage’s Red Card

Sporting Kansas City has decided not to appeal Roger Espinoza's red card. The stated thinking was "for many reasons." Presumably at least one of those was that after thinking about it for a little longer than he did when going off on referees immediately following the game and actually watching the film, Peter Vermes realized what many of us did -- that Espinoza pretty much looked like "Macho Man" Randy Savage when he dropped the elbow on the face of Sebastian Grazzini.

Seriously, did anyone really think that Espinoza’s challenge really stood any kind of chance? The only thing missing from that elbow was a turnbuckle for him to jump off. Maybe he really didn’t mean to elbow Grazzini, as he swears, but the result was absolutely reckless and showed a certain indifference to the consequences.

Espinoza’s reputation surely didn’t help, but the card was absolutely deserved. It’s probably best that everyone just suck it up and move on.
