Brek Shea was suspended three games for throwing a ball at an assistant referee and Mamadou Danso was suspended one game for his tackle on Calen Carr, the MLS Disciplinary Committee announced on Thursday. Neither player was shown a card at the time of the incidents. Both were also fined an undisclosed amount.

In both instances, it seemed rather shocking at the time that the referee declined to issue any kind of card. In the case of Shea, he was called for a foul and that made what the disciplinary committee deemed a “deliberate” kick.

The lack of so much as a foul in the Danso situation was particularly surprising. Although he did appear to get some piece of the ball, he was the last man back and clearly clipped Carr, who would have been through on goal. The incident came in the 82nd minute and robbed the Dynamo of a very good scoring chance in what would eventually be a 0-0 tie.
