A 34-year old Hearts supporter had a problem with his ticket to the Scottish Cup final...it had a crease in it. GASP! A crease!! Well that of course is completely unacceptable, so Ian Downie did what every “smart” fan would do...he took a hot iron to his tickets to spruce them up a little (his words). Good plan “Iron Man”, good plan.
Hearts Fan Attempts to “Spruce Up” His Cup Final Ticket With a Hot Iron
You can imagine what happened to the ticket when it was exposed to a hot iron. Lucky for you STV.tv has a photo, so you don’t have to imagine.
As for why he felt the need to remove the crease from his ticket, Mr. Downie offered up this defense in an interview with the Evening News:
“I saw my mate’s ticket which looked fresh and brand new and thought ‘I’ll just spruce this up a little’. I put it in a tea towel and ironed it, but I was in shock when I took it out.”
Wrapping the ticket in a tea towel seems logical, at least he didn’t put the iron right on the ticket. Unfortunately, the paper used to print modern day tickets is heat sensitive and turn black when exposed to high heat. If you want to see for yourself, leave a ticket in your car in the summer and see what happens.
Fortunately for Ian, the Scottish FA will allow him to get a reprint of his ticket since he still has the original, even if it now has a black scorch mark on it.
Let this be a lesson to all soccer fans out there about the dangers of exposing your match tickets to a device designed to remove wrinkles from your clothes.
