The Mexican Liguilla final is nothing like the CONCACAF Champions League final. Sure, it features Santos Laguna and Monterrey just like the Champions League, but heading into the second leg it looks very, very different and that is good news for Santos Laguna.

Both finals opened in Monterrey, but in the Champions League Los Rayados took advantage, winning 2-0 and putting Santos in a deep hole. In the Liguilla, Santos managed a tie in Monterrey and now head to the second leg in Torreon needing any win to lift the trophy. A little different? You betcha.
Santos scored the opening two goals of the Champions League final second leg to get things even before Monterrey won it in the 82nd minute, which was a surprise because Monterrey was without Humberto Suazo. That won’t be the case in tonight’s LIguilla finale, where ‘Chupete’ will almost assuredly feature. That gives Monterrey some hope as they can team him up with Aldo de Nigris and really put some fear into Santos, but that’s not enough to make Santos feel as if they are not in the driver’s seat.
It comes down to one match now and unlike in the Champions League, there’s nothing for Santos to make up. Best of all, it’s in Torreon. Santos has to like their chances now to get back at Monterrey and lift a trophy of their own while their opponents stand and watch in disbelief.
