Colorado Rapids Vs. Montreal Impact, 2012 MLS: Rapids Win On Crazy Goal

For more than 80 minutes, the Colorado Rapids and Montreal Impact played a seemingly normal match. There were goals, tackles, goals and all the rest of the things you would consider normal happening in the most normal way possible. Then Jaime Castrillion scored one of the weirdest goals you will ever see, and it proved to be the defining moment of the match to boot because that goal held up to be the match-winner as Colorado beat Montreal, 3-2.

An 83rd minute free kick from way on the right seemed normal enough. It was swung all the way to the far post, but then things got weird. It should have gone out for a goal kick, but the wind kept it from going out and Scott Palguta got there in time to head it back across goal. Substitute keeper Greg Sutton lept to try and keep Palguta's header from getting back across and he got a piece of it, redirecting the ball onto the crossbar. Then the ball bounced once, twice on the crossbar before falling right in front of the goal for a stunned Castrillion to nod in for the winning goal.

Patrice Bernier scored the opener to put Montreal in front, but Colorado answered with goals from Jeff Larentowicz and Drew Moor. Andrew Wenger scored just after halftime to level things up and then Tyrone Marshall was sent off in the 61st minute with his second yellow card. It looked like if any team was going to take three points then it would be Montreal, but then that weird ball bouncing on the crossbar thing happened. Three points to the Rapids, or maybe two to the Rapids and one to the crossbar.
