Real Salt Lake Vs. FC Dallas, 2012 MLS: Stoppage Time Goal Is The Difference For RSL

Real Salt Lake and FC Dallas were into stoppage time and they were still in search of a winner. Level at 2-2, it didn't look like either team would take all three points and then Nat Borchers popped out of nowhere. Yup, Nat Borchers, and he did it with his feet, scoring the winning goal in stoppage time to hand RSL a 3-2 win on Saturday night at Rio Tinto Stadium.

It took almost until the hour mark for either team to get going, but when they did, things got wild. First, Alvaro Saborio scored in the 59th minute to put RSL in front, and that lead did last 16 minutes, but Matt Hedges equalized. That tie game only lasted a minute, though, as Saborio notched another to put the home side in front. This RSL lead would last even shorter than their last as Blas Perez scored nine minutes after Saborio's second to put things level again.

Time ticked on and as they got to stoppage time, a draw seemed likely, but then Salt Lake got a free kick in the attacking half. It was floated in, but neither RSL nor FCD could really do with it what they wanted. Salt Lake nudged it closer to goal, then Dallas stopped it and got it back to the edge of the box. Eventually the ball fell to Borchers, who knocked the shot past a stunned Kevin Hartman. In fact, everyone was probably stunned that it was Borchers who scored the winner and did so with his feet as opposed to a header, but RSL wasn't going to complain. They had themselves three points.
