Seattle Sounders Vs. Philadelphia Union, 2012 MLS: Final Score 1-0 Sounders, Hosts Cruise

A fairly pathetic performance by the Philadelphia Union resulted in a 1-0 loss at Centurylink Field, a scoreline that would have been far more emphatic if the Seattle Sounders hadn't contrived to waste a series of chances in both halves. The hosts managed a flurry of chances on Zac MacMath's goal and probably ought to have scored at least four or five times. Fredy Montero headed straight at the keeper in the first half, then forced a great save in the second before producing a brilliant effort that bounced off the woodwork in the later stages -- and he wasn't the only one missing clear chances.

Fortunately for the Sounders, they did manage to squeeze in a goal early in the second half, with Mauro Rosales slotting home after Montero had picked out the winger with a clever cross-field pass. Their profligacy did ensure a nervy finish as the Union came into the match in the last few minutes of the game, the ball pinging around Bryan Meredith's box before Ricardo Salazar blew for full time, but ultimately three points is three points, and Seattle won't be complaining too much.
