New England Revolution Vs. Chicago Fire, 2012 MLS: Kelyn Rowe, Benny Feilhaber Lead Way

Kelyn Rowe and Benny Feilhaber each scored and set each other up for a goal as the New England Revolution beat the Chicago Fire 2-0 on Saturday. Both teams were coming off surprising upsets in the U.S. Open Cup earlier this week and were looking for a chance to rebound. Feilhaber and Rowe were also looking for redemption, as each had missed penalties in the shootout that sealed the Revs' Open Cup fate.

The Fire had the better chances early on, but Matt Reis was able to come up with several big saves to keep it scoreless.

The Revs sprung to life shortly after Rowe entered the game as a substitute. He was put through for a one-on-one chance that Fire goalkeeper Sean Johnson was able to save. A couple minutes later, Rowe got his chance at redemption when Feilhaber fed him a nice pass. Rowe fought off a couple defenders to poke it past Johnson, giving him his first goal since March 31.

In the 73rd minute, Rowe repaid the favor by putting Feilhaber through. It was Feilhaber’s first MLS goal of the season, to go along with his first assist of the season.

The Revs have now scored 10 goals in their past four MLS games and 13 goals in their past six, going 3-2-1 in that stretch. The Revs are now 5-7-1 on the season and sit in sixth place in the Eastern Conference.

For the Fire, it was their third loss in four games and drops them to 5-5-3, just two points ahead of the Revs for the final playoff spot in the East.
