Bakary Soumare is officially a member of the Philadelphia Union. The expected move was made official on Tuesday when it was announced that the Union had sent a first-round pick in the 2013 SuperDraft and an undisclosed amount of allocation money to the Vancouver Whitecaps in exchange for the top spot in the allocation order. The Union also received the Whitecaps' second-round pick in the 2013 SuperDraft.
Union Sign Bakary Soumare After Trade With Whitecaps
Union send allocation money and a first-round SuperDraft pick to the Whitecaps in exchange for right to pick Bakary Soumare in the Allocation Order.

It is the third time in the space of about a calendar year that the Union and Whitecaps have made a trade involving allocation money. The Union have previously been the ones acquiring allocation, in the trades of Jordan Harvey and Sebastien Le Toux.
With the summer transfer window opening this week, Soumare will be eligible to play for the Union on Saturday. He has spent the past three seasons in Europe, mostly with French side Boulogne. When he transferred there in 2009, they were a Ligue 1 side, but spent the past two seasons in Ligue 2 after being relegated. Soumare also made seven appearances in 2. Bundesliga this year after being loaned to Karlsruher.
The former MLS Defender of the Year was a regular contributor during his European stay, logging nearly 7,800 first-team minutes.
